Attorney sentenced in Speedballing case
Substance abuse and addiction problems plague people from all walks of life. Those of us in the legal profession sometimes believe we are immune from these problems. After all, we’ve proven that we have above average intelligence and we’ve demonstrated we have the discipline required to survive three tough years of law school and a grueling state bar exam afterwards. But here is a reminder from Wisconsin that attorneys can and do suffer from problems relating to illegal drug use – in this case heroin and cocaine!

Take a look at some of the before and after pictures of meth users and you instantly realize what a horrible drug methamphetamines can be when abused. What kind of human being would sell such a drug? Well, meet this accused seller – a lawyer from Minneapolis.
This attorney is described as a one-time Minneapolis city hall “power broker” and “political player” because many former council members credit him with helping get them elected.

Attorney Brings Gun to Bar Fight
We want to reiterate that the purpose of the Drunk Lawyer Blog is not to humiliate or shame the subjects that appear herein. Rather, the purpose of this blog is show that attorneys, like those in any other profession, may suffer from substance abuse and addiction. That is why many states require that attorneys complete continuing legal education on the prevention of substance abuse and addiction in the legal profession. For instance, Substance Abuse CLE is currently licensed to provide such continuing legal education for attorneys in California.

At any rate, let us proceed to the latest. While most of us were asleep 5:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving, a Las Vegas attorney was waving a gun around outside a bar. The lawyer, a Las Vegas defense attorney, faces assault with a deadly weapon and property damage charges.

Lawyer Shows Up To Party - Gets Busted!

About one in six Americans have tried cocaine by the age of 30. May we speculate that a certain Mississippi attorney has tried cocaine at least once before the ripe old age of 62?  A Mississippi lawyer, whose practice includes criminal defense, will be looking for a lawyer himself after he was arrested in a hotel room full of drugs.

How did this one get by us? Although the incident occurred a few months ago, it is still worthy of the Drunk Lawyer Blog. Here we take a look at substance abuse in the legal profession. This incident comes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where an attorney learned the hard way that security at the Allegheny County Courthouse is quite good.

Attorneys and Meth – It Happens

Attorneys are intelligent. They graduate from college, go on to law school, pass difficult state Bar examinations for licensing, and must complete continuing legal education requirements. Everyone knows that, so one normally does not associate attorneys with methamphetaminesAttorneys should know better! But it happens. Substance abuse and addiction problems occur in people from every profession. Even tennis star Andre Agassi admitted to using meth. And consider this Arkansas attorney.
